For Property Owners & Advertisers

You MUST:
  • ✓ Provide accurate information: All property details, photos, prices, locations, and amenities must be truthful and current
  • ✓ Use real photos: Only upload actual photos of YOUR property. Stock photos, fake images, or photos of other properties are strictly prohibited
  • ✓ Have legal rights: Only list properties you own, manage, or have explicit authorization to advertise
  • ✓ Provide working contact information: Maintain accurate phone numbers and respond to legitimate inquiries
  • ✓ Honor your listings: If a property is listed as available, honor legitimate booking requests at the advertised price
  • ✓ Update availability: Remove or mark listings as unavailable when properties are no longer available
  • ✓ Comply with local laws: Ensure your property meets all legal requirements for short-term or long-term rentals
  • ✓ Treat guests with respect: Maintain professional, courteous communication
You MUST NOT:
  • ✗ Post fake listings: Advertising non-existent properties or using someone else's property is fraud
  • ✗ Bait-and-switch: Don't lure guests with one property and offer a different one upon arrival
  • ✗ Discriminate: Don't refuse guests based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or other protected characteristics
  • ✗ Engage in price gouging: Don't drastically inflate prices after a guest has inquired or committed
  • ✗ Harass users: No spam, aggressive sales tactics, or inappropriate communications
  • ✗ Duplicate listings: Don't post the same property multiple times to gain unfair visibility
  • ✗ Use misleading titles or descriptions: Exaggeration, false amenities, or deceptive marketing is prohibited
Consequences of Violations:

Fraudulent, misleading, or harmful listings will be removed immediately. Repeat offenders will have their accounts permanently banned. ShortRest may share information about fraudulent users with law enforcement if criminal activity is suspected.

For Travelers & Guests

Your Responsibilities:
  • ✓ Verify before paying: Always verify property details, view in person when possible, and confirm legitimacy before making payments
  • ✓ Ask questions: Request additional photos, ask about amenities, clarify terms, and get everything in writing
  • ✓ Use secure payment methods: Prefer bank transfers with descriptions, get receipts, avoid untraceable cash payments upfront
  • ✓ Keep records: Save all communications, receipts, agreements, and correspondence
  • ✓ Respect properties: Treat accommodations with care, follow house rules, and leave properties as you found them
  • ✓ Communicate honestly: Be upfront about number of guests, purpose of stay, and any special requirements
  • ✓ Report suspicious listings: If you encounter fraud or fake listings, report them immediately to help protect others
Best Practices for Safe Booking:
  1. Research the property: Search the property name or address online for reviews or mentions
  2. Video call or visit: Request a video tour or visit in person before paying
  3. Verify identity: Ask for the owner's ID, company registration, or property documents
  4. Check location: Verify the property exists at the stated address using Google Maps
  5. Start small: Consider paying a deposit only, with balance upon arrival and verification
  6. Trust your instincts: If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is
  7. Bring someone: When viewing properties, bring a friend or family member
Warning Signs of Scams:
  • Owner refuses video calls or in-person viewings
  • Pressure to pay immediately or full amount upfront
  • Prices significantly lower than similar properties
  • Poor quality or obviously stock photos
  • Owner avoids answering specific questions
  • Property details don't match photos
  • Owner can't provide verifiable contact information or address
